METAL STAMPING
Metal stamping transforms flat sheets, strips, or blanks of metal into three-dimensional components with features like holes, bends, embossed details, and notches. There are several types of stamping processes, including progressive and transfer die stamping, drawing and deep drawing, blanking, and other specialized operations. LASER CUTTING SERVICES
CNC laser cutting is a high-speed and high-precision method for creating simple or intricate parts from sheet metal without the costly investment in tooling. It uses CAD drawings to replicate and nest parts for cost-effective and reliable manufacturing. Parts are laid out on the sheets to maximize material efficiency (nesting), and the laser melts the material as it cuts, which essentially eliminates the need for deburring or other edge finishing, saving time and money.
Laser cutting complements our stamping services for many applications, and our equipment can hold tolerances of +/- .001 in. We use laser cutters for:
PROTOTYPE DEVELOPMENT
Validating designs before committing to expensive stamping dies.
LOW-VOLUME PRODUCTION
Runs under 1000 pieces or where the cost of hard tooling is cost-prohibitive.
Our CNC laser cutting equipment handles complex components such as:
- Angled cuts and beveled edges.
- Tube and structural cutting.
- Complex part nesting to minimize material waste.
- Precision trimming of formed parts (eliminating separate trimming dies)
Laser cutting processes the same material range as our stamping operations, such as stainless steel, mild steel, aluminum, copper, brass, and specialty alloys. Material thickness, capacity, and cutting speed vary by alloy and application.
Tool and Die Design
Unlike stampers who outsource tool and die design, manufacturing, and maintenance, Verdugo manages all tool and die operations in-house. This reduces delays and miscommunication associated with outsourced tool and die work, and transferring equipment between facilities. Our ability to monitor, repair, and adjust tooling ourselves means we can keep a close watch on burrs, tolerance drift, and make adjustments quickly.

How tooling is designed has a direct impact on part quality, performance, and production costs. Our engineers collaborate with customers to understand the intent of design and part features, material choices, dimensions, and tolerances and develop a sound stamping strategy.

In-House Die Maintenance,
Repair & ConsultationProduction tooling requires scheduled maintenance to prevent burrs, markings, dimensional drift, and catastrophic failures. We provide comprehensive die maintenance:
- Scheduled sharpening to maintain cutting tools and edge quality of stampings
- Replacing tools prior to failure or excessive wear
- Dimensional verification throughout production
- Emergency repairs to minimize production downtime
When production issues arise, we work closely with our customers to keep them updated on tools. We will consult them when:
- Tools will be down
- How to best proceed when major repairs are needed or when old dies reach their service end-of-life
We implement corrections immediately once we’ve discussed how to best move forward, rather than waiting days for tooling to return from vendors.
In most cases, and as long as we are running the tool, Verdugo handles the cost of maintenance so our customers don’t have to. We coordinate with them so they can reinvest in their tooling in a way that makes the most sense. When we handle maintenance, we also eliminate shipping delays and any costs associated with outsourced tooling.

Materials for Manufacturing
Tooling and DiesTooling can be made from different materials, depending on the hardness of the sheet metal being stamped, the press tonnage, the intricacy of part features, and the number of stampings in a production lifecycle.
Material selection balances initial tooling cost against expected production volume. Short-run tooling may use softer steels, reducing fabrication time, while multi-million-piece runs justify carbide investments.

Metal Finishing
We offer in-house tumble deburring to remove sharp or rough edges on stamped components. In addition, we work closely with trusted partner vendors to provide additional finishing services:

- Anodizing
In accordance with ISO, all our partner vendors have to satisfy a minimum requirement for quality and on-time delivery, and are carefully vetted. We also manage transfer of parts to and from our facility.

Wire EDM
Wire electrical discharge machining (EDM) is a special technique used to remove metal material and create part features that are inefficient or impossible to form with standard stamping or laser cutting, such as internal part features and intricate cuts. Wire EDM is also used in some aspects of stamping tooling fabrication.This equipment uses an electrode to remove material with great precision, and can achieve tolerances within ±0.001 in.
